Thank You Harrison Ford

Today I raise a glass to Harrison Ford. He didn’t just talk about conservation, he acted. Ford donated 389 acres of his Wyoming land to a trust, creating sanctuary for wildlife and habitat—a gift back to the Earth itself.

This is how it’s done! An exquisite transfer of excess in the correct direction. In a world where politicians hoard privilege and corporate giants measure life only in quarterly profits, here stands an example of what generosity and conscience can look like.

Actors, perhaps by their very nature, learn empathy. Their craft demands they step into other lives, other worlds. That practice of imagination seems to leave some with a heart that remembers the planet we all share. It’s a different breed of human. And Ford, in this gesture, shows it clearly.

Ford’s gift isn’t just land—it’s a reflection of the values he’s voiced for years, carrying forward the vision of his dear friend E.O. Wilson. In his call to “listen to the quiet,” he reminds us that the smallest lives sustain the largest systems. This is the rope of life we inherit and must protect.
